Just a short post today, to share something rather wonderful that the good folk at Irish Archaeology tweeted this afternoon: it's an illustration from the Smithfield Decretals (also known as the
Decretals of Gregory IX), an early 14th century collection of canon law, probably from Toulouse, or at least southern France.
This manuscript has some gorgeous illuminations, but one in particular might jump out at
Star Wars fans.

The good people at the British Library have made the entire manuscript digitally available to browse online
here. Do go and look - there are some wonderful illustrations.
